POETRY CONTEST was a SUCCESS!

This week in Grade 3...

We had our 48 hour poetry contest run this week (Monday to Wednesday).  Our school decided to include the whole primary division (10 classes from grade 1-3).  All the classes were given the same 5 secret words to use in their poems.  Most students were surprised at how easy it was to come up with a poem. Some even had most of their poem written during the launch given in class.

At our school last year we found that for our students scored low when it came to poetry on our government testing.  This poetry push, using the poetry package and contest really stirred up some great things in all of the primary classes.

Here are some pictures of the students using the poetry response books, and some of the finalists in the poetry contest. Winners are going to be announced on Earth Day April 22, 2013.

This week has been about GREAT SUCCESSES.
Today at our church our class hosted the Easter Resurrection Mass.  The students and I have been working on it for a couple of weeks now.  When I've done masses before, I like to have everyone in the class participating in some way, whether it is through a speaking role or otherwise.  The students and I have been working together with the little girl that has Autism in our class. It is always so important to have her participate and join us in all the things we do.  We decided to make a huge Tomb with a removable rock that would represent Jesus dying for our sins and rising from the dead.  The tomb turned out incredible.  All of the class helped paint the tomb and one of our students drew the rabbit in the corner.  We attached the boulder with Velcro, because the student with Autism is very familiar with it, as she uses it with many of her daily assignments and folders. The mass was such a success for us today. I am so proud of my class and their dedication to each other. Here is a pic of the tomb they are so proud of.

Busy week, definitely looking forward to the weekend and finishing the Earth Day package I am working on right now.
Stay tuned.

Have a great Friday!
